What Exactly
Are Grillz?
Custom Tooth Grillz are fashionable dental jewelry made out of gold, featuring diamonds, sapphires, rubies, opals, enamel and more.
Grillz may also be referred to as fronts, golds, gold slugs, and diamond grillz. Grillz are made of metal (typically gold), diamonds, stones and other precious gems; and are removable.
It’s the #1 question we get, so you are probably wondering “Are grillz bad for your teeth?” The good news for you is that the answer is NO.
A study published by the American Dental Association revealed that there have not been any cases indicating that wearing a quality grill is bad for your teeth. There is, however, evidence indicating that wearing a grill made of non-precious metals can lead to irritation and allergic reactions in the gum area. Because of this, it is imperative that you shop with a reputable grill manufacturer so you can be sure that you are purchasing a quality product that will not damage your teeth and gums.
If you are still wondering “Do grillz mess up your teeth?” here are four things to remember to avoid any damage from wearing grillz:
Bottom line - there is no evidence showing that wearing grill is harmful. Just be sure you practice good oral hygiene, clean your grill regularly, don’t try to modify your grill fitting without our help, and (most importantly) purchase your grill from a trustworthy manufacturer so you know you are getting a high-quality set of teeth.
Are Grillz Bad
For Your Teeth?
The design options for grillz are endless! With the increased desire to be individualistic, we’ve created a process where YOU are given the oppurtunity to design your very own custom jewelry piece. We work directly with our clients and wholesale jeweler to fill orders that are one-of-a-kind & directly embody the client who is wearing them.
Standard grillz are made using solid gold (typically in 10K, 14K, 18K and 22K). The second most popular grillz styles feature diamonds full covering the surface of each tooth.
Steps to Making Grillz:
1. You need to have a mold taken of the teeth
2. Cement is poured into the mold
3. A wax-version of the grill is made to fit the cement mold of your teeth
4. The wax is brought to a gold caster who turns the wax piece into gold
5. The gold grill is polished, finished and small adjustments are made for fitment.
6. (optional) diamonds, sapphires, enamel, pearls, and other customizations can be done to meet individual requests.
Who Designs It?
How Much Do They Cost?
There are a number of manufacturers who sell knock-off or pre-made grillz for under $50. These grillz are usually plastic or gold plated and are universally sized. Custom Grillz are a much higher quality. However, he price of gold changes even more often than the stock market does. This causes the cost of grillz to change on a daily basis because the raw material being used, gold, fluctuates in price.
Gold grill pricing depends on the gold purity you wish to go with. Options include 10karat, 14karat, 18karat and 22Karat. High quality custom gold grillz start at around $150 - $250 per tooth, and the price per tooth typically decreases the more teeth you purchase. However, it is common to receive a better price per tooth when you order a grill with more teeth. Bottom 6 grillz in 10K solid gold costs $745 and if you want to upgrade to 14K gold, we charge $945.
If you are interested in adding diamonds to your smile, we can make that happen too. We have in-house wholesale diamond buyers who specialize in setting diamonds and other rare gemstones in grillz and other jewelry pieces.
Just like our teeth whitening process, Grillz last as long as you maintain them. If you decide to purchase a custom set of gold grillz, you are making a costly investment and it will only benefit you to take proper care of them. If you take proper care of the grill, they should last for the rest of your life, so long as your teeth do not move or fall out.
For starters, gold naturally tarnishes and loses its shine over time, and this process tends to happen much quicker with grillz than with bracelets and necklaces. This is because acids and bacteria living in your mouth and on your teeth contribute to the overall problem. For this reason, it will greatly benefit you to constantly clean your teeth and grill before and after each time wearing them. Your dentist will thank you too.
When wearing grillz, you are making a statement: “I have style. I am successful. I have power. I am unique.” There is nothing stylish about having dirty a grill. You are investing a good amount of money to have a set of custom grillz made specifically for you, so be sure to take extra good care of them.
Custom gold grillz are a luxury item and they should be treated with care. We highly encourage that you prioritize cleaning your gold grill so you can preserve your teeth and keep your grill looking fresh!

Which Type of Gold Should I Choose?
In the gold market, different types of gold karats are available which may confuse you when choosing your best option for your grill.
18K Gold: Advantages and Disadvantage
Advantages:- One of the greatest options for grillz or other fine jewelry piece is 18K gold. 18K gold has a richer, warmer color than 10K and 14K gold due to its 75 percent gold content, making it a wonderful choice if you want your setting to have a rich, stunning color tone. When we set mini-opals in our grillz, we only use 18K Gold because the metal is soft enough to set the small opals. If you were to try to set the mini opals in 10K or 14K, they would shatter because the opals are too fragile.
Disadvantages:- More expensive than 14k or 10k gold and it is also easy to scratch.
14K Gold: Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages: Despite being the affordable choice, 14k gold is just as elegant as the other metals. It's our recommended option for all diamond grillz or any gold jewelry featuring other gemstones. 14K gold is a gorgeous and long-lasting metal that is also reasonably priced. Personal choice, skin tone, and current trend should all play a role in the gold hue you choose.
Disadvantages:- Although more expensive than 10K gold, it is still a reasonable investment.
10K Gold: Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages:- The most affordable quality of gold for grillz and other jewelry is 10K gold. It's also the most durable. If you purchase your gold grillz from an experienced grillz manufacturer and gold caster, the 10K Yellow Gold will look identical to 14K Yellow Gold.
Disadvantages:- In terms of looks, 10K is the least sought after yellow gold grillz option. There is also a noticeable color difference and weight when comparing 10K to 18K gold: 18K is much denser and will be around 30% heavier.
